Im Herbst erschien im Verlag der Buchhandlung Walther König (Koenig Books, London) der englischsprachige Sammelband »Skateboard Studies«, herausgegeben von Konstantin Butz und Christian Peters.

Das Buch versammelt 11 akademische Aufsätze, die sich aus unterschiedlichen Perspektiven mit der Praxis und Kultur des Skateboarding auseinandersetzen. Beteiligte Autor*innen sind: Iain Borden, Eckehart Velten Schäfer, Kyle W Kusz, Konstantin Butz, Francisco Vivoni, Kai Reinhart, Ocean Howell, Emily Chivers Yochim, Christian Peters, ZáNean McClain, E. Mit exklusiven Fotografien von der Performance »Backworlds/Forwords«, die der Kölner Künstler Johannes Wohnseifer 1998 mit dem Skateboarder Mark Gonzales im Städtischen Museum Abteiberg in Mönchengladbach initiiert hat.

Skateboarding is not immediately associated with university research projects. It is first and foremost a physical activity, and no scholarly approach can substitute for the empirical knowledge gained through the act of skateboarding itself—the movement of the body with and on a skateboard. Nevertheless, the theoretical implications of this movement and its spatial, cultural, and social settings are ripe for exploration within a number of different academic disciplines.
